Data centres and critical environments

M&E building services for data centres, server rooms and comms rooms across London and the South East. Resilient electrical distribution, cooling, containment and structured cabling, delivered under strict permit and CDM discipline, with planned maintenance that keeps critical plant running.

The sector

Buildings that
cannot stand still.

Data centres tolerate no surprises. Every intervention on live critical infrastructure has to be planned, permitted and reversible, and the plant behind it has to be maintained to a standard that assumes failure is not an option. AMPM Building Services delivers the mechanical and electrical building-services scope for data centres and other critical environments: power distribution to rack level, cooling and ventilation, containment and structured cabling, and the fabric that houses it all. We are clear about where our scope ends. We deliver the M&E infrastructure that supports the IT estate; we do not manage servers, networks or the IT layer itself. Working to BS 7671, CIBSE guidance and SFG20 maintenance regimes, our teams operate under permit-to-work and CDM 2015 discipline as standard, whether we are fitting out a new comms room, upgrading distribution in a live facility or holding the planned maintenance contract for critical plant. As a new AMPM Group company drawing on the 29-year record of sister company Gemini AMPM, we bring an established delivery culture to an environment where process is everything.

What we deliver

Sector scope,
self-delivered.

Scope

  • Resilient electrical distribution from intake to rack: switchgear, busbar, sub-distribution and final circuits supporting UPS and standby systems
  • Structured cabling and containment: basket, tray, ladder and trunking routes designed for capacity, segregation and future growth
  • Cooling and ventilation for critical spaces: CRAC/CRAH support installations, ventilation, and heat-rejection pipework and plant
  • Comms room and server room fit-out: raised floors, partitions, fire-rated fabric, doors and finishes to Cat A/B standard
  • SFG20-aligned planned preventative maintenance for critical M&E plant, with asset registers and service records kept audit-ready
  • 24/365 reactive maintenance with engineers on call every day of the year
  • Permit-to-work delivery in live environments: method statements, isolations, change control and out-of-hours working
  • Power and cooling upgrades in occupied facilities, phased to protect uptime

Standards & compliance

  • BS 7671 (IET Wiring Regulations) for all electrical design and installation work
  • CIBSE guidance for cooling, ventilation and critical-environment services design
  • SFG20 as the framework for planned preventative maintenance regimes
  • CDM 2015 duties discharged in full, with permit-to-work and change control on every live-environment task
  • Building Regulations Part L, F and B applied to fabric, ventilation and fire performance
FAQs

Your questions,
answered.

Do you work on live data centres?

Yes, under strict controls. Work in live critical environments runs on permit-to-work, agreed isolations, method statements and change control, with out-of-hours and phased working where the facility requires it. Nothing is switched, drilled or lifted without an approved permit.

Do you handle the IT side — servers, networks, hardware?

No. Our scope is the M&E building services that support the IT estate: power distribution, cooling, ventilation, containment, structured cabling and the room fabric. Server, network and IT hardware work sits with your IT team or specialist integrator, and we coordinate closely with them.

Can you take on planned maintenance for critical plant?

Yes. We build SFG20-aligned planned preventative maintenance regimes for critical M&E plant — distribution, cooling, ventilation and associated fabric — backed by 24/365 reactive cover. Asset registers and service records are kept in a state your auditors can inspect.

Which areas do you cover?

We are based in Burgess Hill, West Sussex, and cover London and the South East, including Sussex, Surrey, Kent, Hampshire and Berkshire. Our 24-hour line, 0330 043 0080, is answered every day of the year.
